Calling all artists and designers! We need you for our annual Green Buildings Open House. You'll be designing the cover art for the multipage brochure about this year's Open House. The winner will recieve a GreenHomeNYC T-shirt and printed copies of his or her work, and the winner and two runners-up will have their work displayed on our website.

Submit your design for the brochure cover for the premiere green buildings tour in the country, which happens to be organized by volunteers who appreciate good design.

The NYC Green Buildings Open House is organized every year by GreenHomeNYC, an all-volunteer nonprofit that promotes environment-friendly buildings. We take a couple hundred people around to over a dozen of the city´s greenest buildings.

What´s a green building?
Green buildings contribute to creating an environmentally sustainable NYC by conserving energy and water, and minimizing waste. They promote the use of recycled and rapidly-renewable materials in construction, and features like vegetated green roofs help to maintain cooler temperatures in the city while permeable paving helps to recharge groundwater and reduce the amount of pollution that runs into rivers when it rains. In short, green buildings are like hybrid cars -- not perfect, but pretty good for what we can do with techology we have on hand. We think they´re neat and we´re pretty sure you´ll agree after visiting them on the Green Buildings Open House.

What´s the look-feel we´re going for?
At GreenHomeNYC, we´re green, but not hippy-dippy. We´re all about making New York greener, in all its young, edgy, urban, tall, dense glory -- not trading in skyscrapers for strawbale houses out West. So, something urban, something visually interesting but still clean. Something that lets you read the cover text (But hey, you´re the pro!)

What´s involved in submitting a design?
Your finished four-color design should be 8.5" x 3.66" with a bleed of at least 1/4".

You'll also need to include our logo, which you can download here in EPS or JPG format.
Send final designs in PDF format to info@greenhomenyc.org. (You can also write to that address with any questions.) Please put the word contest in the subject of your email, and have your entries in by midnight on August 1, 2006.
